In therapy we often talk about life experiences, how it shapes who we are, and guides the journey we are on. Sometimes in our journeys we are faced with stressors, maybe feeling uncertain about our future, or feeling lost in the realm of our thoughts. Sometimes our journey leads us to self-discovery, and new ways of doing things. Perhaps by accepting the uncertainty of tomorrow.
Stress causes demand on one or more of our body's many systems, most likely your nervous system is responding to an experience that is perceived as threatening or dangerous. This system activates your internal alarm system “fight-or-flight” to protect you. Small amounts of stress help you meet deadlines, be prepared for presentations, and arrive on time to important events. However, when stress begins to accumulate across all environments, long-term stress can develop and become harmful, thus reduce your tolerance level leading to overwhelming feelings, increase sadness or irritability.
As a Registered Social Worker, I have worked for over 10 years in the areas of autism, ADHD, disabilities and mental health at developmental service and children's mental health agency. I support youth, families and siblings to build a strong foundation of resilience, while enhancing their understanding in connection between their thoughts and emotions. My area of speciality includes supporting neurodivergent people and their families. Whether you are accessing supports for yourself or your child with Autism, ADHD or developmental condition, including its co-morbidities. I utilize a variety of treatment approaches such as, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and Exposure and Response Prevention for various Anxiety based Disorders. In addition to these treatment approaches, my clinical problem solving and formulation is influenced by strengths-based perspectives, attachment, and neuroscience.
I offer individual and/or family therapy sessions for people ages 6 and up. Services are currently being offered virtually with my practice being based in Mississauga, Ontario.
